MI3 and X-men out the way.
My summer movie watching has been going pretty well. Aside from the comfortable seats and cool air condition (Beats the hot sun) I've thoroughly enjoyed both Mission: Impossible 3 and X-men: The Last Stand. Although I'm sure some of you have read or heard the critic reviews, or your friends opinion's on the films, I thought I offer my take on both flicks too.
MI3 was a lot better than I'd expected. I was surprise to not be disappointed by this movie such as I was with MI2. Although it is still an action movie, I consider it a smart action movie with grand action scenes (Such as the super cool bridge battle sequence) but no taking things over the edge such as the last mission (John Woo style.) The storyline was good but I wished they would tell you what the rabbit's foot is? The movie hypes it up so much that it makes you think it's the ultimate weapon. The acting is very well done. Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt is still stellar but I give props to notable performances of Ving Rhames and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Both guys are a joy to watch in the movie.
Overall, I think the movie is great but I'm a little shocked that it hasn't done so well. Has Mr. Cruise personal life done anything to affect ticket sells? Maybe but it could also be that this movie is just a mixture of the last two installments. Hmmm....Ah heck! I'm still getting this on DVD.
Review wise, X-men 3 receive some good critic reviews but has been trashed by comic fans. Most of the X-men fans I've talked to have nothing but criticism for this movie. Since I'm not an avid X-men comic reader, my opinion may not have much weight but I thought the movie was pretty good. It explains the Phoenix saga (Something that has always confused me) in simple, non complicated form. The movie moved at a faster pace and offer a bit more action than the last two installments. I do have some gripes though. I wished the movie was about 20-30 minutes longer. I think that would have helped with the storyline more because some times the flick feels a bit rushed. Second, unlike the last two installments, the movie doesn't focus on the story very much but on the action and main characters Logan and Storm. I kinda was hoping for a balanced storyline with action and more emphasis on other mutants, such as my personal favorites, Iceman, Rogue, Kitty Pride, and Juggernaut. While I can go on things I wished the movie had, I liked it regardless. I want to see again but preferably on DVD.
